Institute of Microbiology obtained a certificate of copyright in computer software

Certificate of copyright in computer software has been obtained for the construction of sharing database of pathogenic microorganism resources and algorithm modeling in the frontier region of China and Southeast on 1st June, 2017.

The frontier regions of China and Southeast Asia are vast in territory and abundant in resources, both of which are important and precious areas for the research and development of biodiversity. Wide species and huge quantities of animals are found in these regions. Furthermore, pathogenic microorganisms of animal origin play crucial roles in the biological chain. However and importantly, those animals also act as intermediate hosts of pathogens and mixers for the outbreak and prevalence of infectious diseases. The unique ecological environment of China's border and Southeast Asia has led to frequent contacts between wildlife and migratory birds, thereby resulting in significantly higher risks in transmitting pathogens to humans. With respect to the above, it is of public health and economic significance to conduct the investigation of new zoonotic pathogens carried by vectors in the frontier region of China and Southeast Asia. The collection and preservation of pathogens, the identification of their biological characteristics, and the grasping of basic data of these new pathogens not only meet the needs of development in the frontier region of China and Southeast Asia in future, but also conformance to the strategic needs of China's biological security. Simultaneously, it also provides a scientific basis for developing the basic scientific research of infectious diseases and evaluating the risk of new infectious diseases. Thus Institute of Microbiology (IM), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) applied the project of Epidemiological investigation, preservation and utilization of new pathogenic microorganisms, which aimed to assess the risk of new infectious diseases by investigating the status of new zoonotic pathogens, to complete scientific data and investigation reports of the whole system, and to realize the sharing of investigation results, so as to provide technical support for the harmonious development of animal health and ecological environment.

Using the sampled and collected viruses and other pathogenic microorganisms resources, the construction of new pathogenic microorganisms research center of CAS has been performed by the research team of IM, CAS. The establishment of the platform is also known as the construction of sharing database of pathogenic microorganism resources and algorithm modeling in the frontier region of China and Southeast Asia. The database is divided into four parts: ①Platform construction: The development of multiple platforms and partitions in the sharing database system of pathogenic microorganism resources and algorithm modeling in the frontier region of China and Southeast Asia; ②Photo library of animals and characteristics of infection cases in different areas: The completion of standardized arrangement and digital expression of the investigated samples, and the establishment of photo library of animals and characteristics of infection cases in different areas; ③Resource sharing platform of pathogenic microorganisms in Southeast Asia: The formation of a comprehensive report on the assessment of the distribution of major animal pathogens in the region; and the construction of pathogen database of sample resources in the resource sharing platform of pathogenic microorganisms in Southeast Asia to achieve external data sharing of real-world cases and relevant information of sample resources; ④Integration and development of bio-security surveillance and early-warning algorithm model: The study of pathogenic microorganisms and the mechanism of dynamic transmission by taking the important pathogenic microorganisms as the object of study, followed by the construction and exhibition of early-warning model based on the algorithm of spatial and temporal distribution of diversity, as well as the performance of modeling verification.

On 1st June, 2017, certificate of copyright in computer software has been applied and obtained successfully for the construction of sharing database of pathogenic microorganism resources and algorithm modeling in the frontier region of China and Southeast Asia. And its copyright owner is the IM, CAS.
