A 25-ha forest plot to be jointly established by XTBG, Thailand and CAS-SAEBRI

A 25-ha tropical forest dynamics plot is to be established within the Klong Naka Wildlife Sanctuary and the position has been determined.

A 25-ha tropical forest dynamics plot is to be established within the Klong Naka Wildlife Sanctuary and the position has been determined. This is a decision jointly made by Kasetsart University (the best universities in Thailand), Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP), and Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG). And now the establishment of this big research plot is  sponsored by Southeast Asia Biodiversity Research Institute,CAS and XTBG.

To promote establishment of the plot, XTBG researchers have conducted many field investigations, held discussions with Thai cooperators, signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Kasetsart University, and also will further collaborate with DNP.

During a recent field survey from May 28 to June 4, XTBG researchers and their Thai partners investigated forest vegetation of the Prince Chumphon Wildlife Sanctuary, Ngao Waterfall National Park, and Klong Naka Wildlife Sanctuary.

After investigating the components and landscape structure of typical tropical primary forests in south Thailand, and through comparison analysis, the three sides determined to establish the 25-ha plot in the Klong Naka Wildlife Sanctuary.

After being approved by National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) and DNP, the three sides will start work of the plot establishment.

XTBG and their Thai partners will cooperate in the establishment and management of the forest plot.
