Welcome Party of Thingyan Festival (Water Festival) in CAS-SEABRI, Myanmar

To welcome the coming Myanmar Year (1379) which will become a new year at 17th April, 2017, water festival was celebrated in CAS-SEABRI on 7th, April, 2017 to follow up Myanmar’s tradition and culture.

      Thingyan means transition in Pali language and so, Thingyan Festival is celebrated for the transition from old year to new year (Myanmar Year). During Thingyan Festival, people splash water each other which means leaving all sins of past year and forgiving the mistakes of friends, leading to a good and prosperous year with thrown water. Thingyan Festival usually happens in April, warmest month in Myanmar. Around Thingyan Festival, Padauk trees, (National Flower of Myanmar) (Pterocarpus macrocarpus) , (Pterocarpus indicus) which are blooming in the whole country is the symbol of Thingyan Festival.

During the welcome party of Thingyan Festival, the guests are served with Myanmar Traditional Food (Shwe-Yin-Aye), Karaoke, Traditional Dance, and playing with water.
