With the invitation of XTBG, 8 MOECAF staff (3 from NWCD, 5 from FRI) attended the Workshop on Biodiversity in Southeast Asia. This workshop, held by XTBG in Kunming from January 26 to 30, 2015, attracted more than fifty participants from sixteen institutes in Southeast Asia. Twenty-one presentations showcasing research on biodiversity and conservation work in Southeast Asia were made during the workshop. The participants recognized the inherent, social, cultural and economic values of biodiversity to Southeast Asia. They also recognized the growing threat of human activities and climate change to Southeast Asia’s biodiversity and the moral obligation of scientists from this region to work at the interface between scientific research and biodiversity conservation. “Recommendations on Biodiversity Research and Conservation in Southeast Asia” were discussed and released during the workshop. The Recommendation suggested many ways to promote biodiversity research and conservation in Southeast Asia, including launching multidisciplinary and long-term research, data sharing, and building biodiversity conservation networks.
